The fact that either is right be accident does not make them less of a bitch. Cannoli Send a noteboard - 14/11/2010 12:15:36 AM
LPD's opposition was not founded on anticipation of the true danger (double taint - tSaSG says "No one anticipated the Dark One's counter-stroke." Not even LPD. Her plan was lame-ass too, and she was WRONG about LTT destroying the Pattern or freeing the Dark One or whatever her objection was to his plan. Speaking of Hindsight, even with foreknowledge of the Taint, LTT would STILL have been right to go ahead. It was worth the cost, frankly. Sealing up the Dark One is WORTH a disease the kills a fraction of 1% of the male population, regardless of how much collateral damage is done with it. They were losing the war, and there was no end in sight. LPD objected to a valid strategy for reasons that proved to be unfounded, and the accidental benefit of her resistance to cooperation does not exonerate her. That would be like claiming that Egwene's carelessness in getting captured, and stupidity in replacing the properly prepared operative to change the chain are justified because it enabled her rescue of Adelorna.

Egwene lacks similar reasons or basis for her opposition, and as Rand's final PoV implies, the motivation of her opposition is almost certainly his ta'veren inducing her to gather the rulers so he can use them for HIS purposes. The fact that his ta'veren nature and the Pattern use her in this purpose in no way exonerates her either. If she were more cooperative or positively minded, she could be used to bring them all there to support Rand. Not to mention (and you cannot deny this, as it is the basis on your claim that there is a higher purpose to her actions than her own intentions), how she is going about it is completely retarded. What is a whole massive army gathered in one place going to do to dissuade Rand? He marched out of the Aiel Waste prepared for, and accepting the possibility of every nation west of the Dragonwall to be hostile to him. She was in the room when he said as much, and has observed him grow much harder since then. At worst, she's gathering all the opposition in one place where he can incinerate them with one weave. At best, she's transporting a lot of people to sit in this field with their thumbs up their asses while she and their leaders try to persuade Rand otherwise, and she is abusing the prestige of her office to leave their homelands dangerously unguarded. The burning of Caemlyn is on her head.
