While it is true that this man could be a normal soldier, the fact that no one else could have woven the Gateway seems to indicate to me that he is an Asha'man. The lack of pins is easily explained... he is still a soldier, not raised to Asha'man. It is also possible that Moridin hates the pins and doesn't allow them to be used when his Asha'man are away from public scrutiny.
As for the Moridin=Taim theory, I think I spoke too soon. The fact that he seems to be in the north exclusively does dent the theory. But nothing's to stop him from being the man who controls Taim, and hence the Black Tower.
It could be that Graendal isn't aware that Moridin is Taim, but that seems a stretch.

What made you think it was an AM? The Black clothes? Because the whole castle is black, and even the chairs are black, as well as other servants.
I cannot believe that Graendal would allow an AM to be so close to her without commenting on it. She has mentioned the threat of the AM before. I think it's plausible that Moridin opened the gateway and left the room, possibly even to do the same with Demandred and Mesaana. The messenger just vanishes, and we don't hear about the gateway closing either - it might have been tied off. Perhaps the scene is not descriptive enough, but AM are almost always described as men in black, with pins, a cloak and a sword. This man only had one component.
I think that Taim is Taim, but commanded by Moridin.
