If Masema was compelled, then he might have been compelled at the end of TGH.


Graendal says that Cyndane and Moghedien were occasionally moving down in the south to get Perrin or Mat killed, and Masema said the Dragon appeared to him in silvery light and commanded him to do so.

It wouldn't be unlike Lanfear to take a disbeliever like Masema and smash him with Compulsion and make him into a rabid follower of Rand's. At the time, she envisioned the whole world bowing at her and Rand's feet, and Compulsion or murder is pretty much how she would deal with any resistance. Semirhage also said that Lanfear liked to flit in an cause ruin, and then leave. This whole plot stinks of her.
