Re: Wait... the indegenous Seanchan haven't changed in a thousand years?

The very idea that a whole continent of people are all untrustworthy and dishonorable is absurd enough, but the only thing you're basing this on is the word of the conquerors of these very people. Of course they're going to claim that they were bringing enlightenment to a barbaric people. That's how most hegemonic powers have justified their expansions in history. I find it absurd that you swallow all their crap completely, and then use this to state that a whole continent is tainted.
I don't necessarily believe this either. However, there is precedent in Shara and the Aiel Waste, and presumably also the Isle of Madmen. If Ajimbura is typical of a rural Seanchan commoner, then the conquerors may be right.
Further, if the people of the Wetlands have an inherent system of justice and honor that will allow them to survive the absence of the Seanchan, what justification do they have for their invasion and their intent to export their bigotry and persecution?
Their initial justification is through military might and the threat of force. However, their hostile takeover is being legitimized through popular support, which they are gaining rapidly. The vast majority of people in the conquered countries (those not counted among the ranks of channelers, high nobility in some cases, and other dissidents) seem to prefer the peace and stability of the Seanchan regime.

Yes. That is a flaw of Seanchan governance.

It's not the Empire's fault, and that flaw is not being duplicated in the wetlands
