... to the work and style of the man responsible for everything that is good about this series. It is completely ridiculous.
We all know what the series really needed was another three books in which virtually nothing happened but was described really well.
There were two choices for writing the post-RJ books:
1)Someone spends long years studying the Wheel of Time books, studying the characters, magics, and history of that world, and even more time just studying Robert Jordan himself, and then they write the books, trying to replicate as close as possible how they would have been if RJ wrote them.
2)The writer does his best to just convey what happens, knowing not everything will be perfect, mistakes will be made, not everything will feel the same, but the fans can get "closure", and not be strung along for indefinite periods of time.
I prefer Option Two. I never expected the books to be the same, and as long as I know what happens, I can alter things in my mind to try to imagine a seamless story.
For better or for worse, Sanderson is not the writer that Jordan was. But either way, he's not "attempting to be an author". He's attempting to write someone else's books in a style different from his own.
And on top of that, I can't think of an author that would have been better for the project.
Go Hokies!

It's incredible that some readers actually seem to prefer Sanderson's attempts at being an author

You forgot the part where Jordan was a terrible author.

It isn't life though. It's entertainment, and there's so much fun potential for that connection

He's obviously responsible, but it's not a very serious offense.

I don't think Sanderson is a good writer. I just don't think Jordan was a good writer, either.
