I think the issue is conflating fantasy with the multi-volume epics than anything I'd disagree with Larry Send a noteboard - 03/08/2011 04:05:12 AM
You know I'm a bit more forgiving on Martin because I expected pretty much what I got and thought that was better than standard epic fantasy fare, but outside of that I do sympathize with your assessment on one segment of fantasy fiction.

Still want to see what you'd make of R. Scott Bakker's books, as I could see you either loathing them or actually enjoying much of the five books released so far (not counting his two thriller novels). But beyond that, what about reading older writers like Algernon Blackwood, Robert W. Chambers, or James Hogg? While it won't be epic escape, it'd have more depth than those tacky crossword puzzle toilet paper prints.

Those who says that nothing happens in ADWD really need to read CoT - 29/07/2011 12:02:23 PM 1471 Views

Agreed. It could be argued that more happens in the epilogue of ADWD than all of CoT. *NM* - 01/08/2011 01:27:58 AM 571 Views
