Have you read the Big White Book? It details some of the events that happened during The Breaking

When you read a detailed series of notes about the Breaking, what Yunalesca suggests is really what happened. A sea was moved by a male channeler to wipe out an entire continent. Some other males triggered Earthquakes so severe that mountains collapsed and new ones were raised. There are still entire landmasses that are not safe to approach because technology was damaged to such an extent that travelling to them would be suicide. This is one of the cases where I think RJ needs to be taken at his word when he says that the environment had become so hellish that myriads of Talents were lost.
Also, Travelling can work both ways. There were still Dreadlords. If the Aes Sedai didn't carefully mask her weave or remove the residue, an enemy channeler could use the remnants of the weave to hunt down and kill the Aes Sedai. It would be like painting a target on your back, and there was no guarantee you could cover your tracks before someone saw it.
Further, to think on tactics even more, jumping a few miles could be suicidal. You could be exhausting yourself when you could easily find yourself in a worse situation due to the environment, wards placed by Dreadlords or insane male Aes Sedai or in the middle of territory held by the enemy.
This weave might not even be useful to the Aes Sedai who attached themselves to communities as leaders or defenders.

It is a little odd. Maybe because channelers weren't united for a while?
