I would equate it to juggling. Splitting off a new flow would be like adding a new object of different size and weight and require faster spinning. I imagine the skill was lost to Aes Sedai because there is risk involved, perhaps it opens one up to burning out if they lose control.

Interesting you bring up juggling, since Egwene does just that while splitting her flows 14 ways. I suspect the imagery RJ used in that scene was deliberate. It IS like juggling, and it requires extraordinary mental effort to track 14 weaves. Actually juggling with 14 weaves... that's a whole other thing.
