If the person behind the human shield has a bomb, and thousands, hundreds of thousands of lives are at stake, then yea. Its a hard choice, but sometimes it has to be made.
Even if it is only one life, or just the possibility that someone MIGHT take a life. The very fact that they are USING a hostage already puts them beyond the pale. The act of taking a hostage indicates a willingness to spend that hostage's life for your ends. He is declaring his willingness to hurt or kill that hostage, and thus is a justifiable target. Period.Josef Stalin cynically said "One death is a tragedy, a million deaths is a statistic." He was being cynical about how he could get away with mass murder, but he WAS factually correct. One life is all it takes to make you a murderer. Quantity does not count.
