Perhaps whatever weakens Cyndane was not accounted for by Graendal when she compared herself to Cyndane earlier. Maybe she sensed Cyndane's true strength, not her 'functional' strength (as referred to by Sanderson).

That would open up a whole 'nuther can of worms.
