None of this is a twisting of the Oaths. Her actions stick to the letter of the Oaths. fionwe1987 Send a noteboard - 04/12/2009 04:29:44 AM
I cannot remember one instance where Moiraine used the Power on civilians and justified it as self defense.

That's not what I said. At all.

What I said was that Moiraine was prepared to defend herself at any moment, because of her mission. She did not indiscriminately start attacking people because of it, but her life has been in danger more than once, and often not on battlefields. Recall that Lan mentioned carrying her all the way back to the Tower with an arrow in her back, and her doing the same for him. Considering the nature of her mission, I believe they were in situations where anyone and anything could be an enemy.

You'll also recall that when she met Balthamel and Aginor, she didn't wait for them to attack - the fact that they were Forsaken and were in front of her was enough for her to start fighting them with killing weaves.

I'm not convinced. I don't believe she'd want to subject herself to being sworn. - 01/12/2009 09:54:40 PM 846 Views
Not just that, but in the AoL, the Oath Rod was used to "bind criminals". *NM* - 02/12/2009 05:41:35 AM 312 Views

Well, that's just one oath. The other two are not as easy to circumvent. - 02/12/2009 01:19:53 AM 785 Views
But given free will, they can interpret "danger" to mean "clear and present" or "potential danger" - 02/12/2009 04:54:26 PM 616 Views
Last defense of life cannot mean potential danger. *NM* - 02/12/2009 05:51:27 PM 255 Views
Yes it can. It all depends on interpretation. - 03/12/2009 12:22:47 AM 606 Views
