Considering that AS cannot lie, if they made that Oath then they are bound to it. By the Tower's morals, the Rebel ferrets had committed a crime at least equal to the Rebel Hall's betrayals, so Egwene was indeed a hypocrite.
Nonetheless, I liked her in KoD and tGS. But I do hope that she is faced with her real faults more seriously in ToM/AMoL. Unless the idea is that she is MEANT to be a flawed character (like her predecessor in the AoL, who was a great leader but failed to work with LTT - possibly for the better in that case, but we don't know for sure). My fear is that she might alienate the Tower from Rand, and thereby severely cripple the Light.
