I really wouldn't mind that she believes her actions are justified, what irritates me is that she gladly moralises anybody else who does as she did.

What Egwene did was significantly different than what the BA hunters were doing, especially since they were in fact using the bonding to force women into actions they had no choice but to obey. Egwene's actions, where manipulative as hell, but the women she cornered were clearly (as evidenced by Beonin) not bound into effective slavery.

I won't make excuses for her, but I will say her actions were nothing in comparison to the 4th Oath. But I do agree that the interaction with the BA hunters should have been a thought provoking thing for Egwene and it was not.

Funny, seems to me Beonin is a fine example of how Egwene's bondage is no different. Her treason clearly demonstrates where her loyalties lie, she was with the Tower from the beginning, and returned to the Tower as soon as she could find a loophole out of her Oath. The fact that she couldn't do anything earlier, or that she feel to Egwene again later only demonstrates that she truly is Compelled.

The fact that Beonin managed to squirm away from Egwene's grasp for an instant is no more demonstrative that Egwene's bond is not slavery than the fact that Aes Sedai are deceitful as anything you can imagine is demonstrative that Aes Sedai can lie despite their Oath. The failures of the Compulsion do not remove from the act of Compulsion itself.

Now, that was different from the Fourth Oath in many ways, of course. There is no disputing that Elaida's ambitions were worse than Egwene's. But they are not so different that Egwene can be justified both in her revulsion at the Fourth Oath's concept, and in the validity of her own actions.

The Black Ajah Hunters situation is much clearer though. To purge the Black Ajah, the use of such criminal practices might be acceptable. 'Waah, waah, I want the power I feel I deserve' is not a valid reason, however.
