I say make it simpler. In order for the oath rod to work, it requires a target, the person holding the rod, in other words, skin contact. She wore gloves, or wraped her hands in flows or air and then inverted the weave so she was not actuially holding the rod in her hand, but in flows of air. Thus, the rod's compulsion had no target and therefore she was not bound.
Yeah, some sort of inverted weave that prevented actual skin contact with the rod would presumably have worked. It's simple, and would not have been noticeable - the weave could have been thin enough that it appeared there was skin contact even though there wasn't.
I like that idea better than mine.
