LOL ... I love that you of all people are going to fall back on this argument! darius_sedai Send a noteboard - 22/01/2010 07:41:00 PM
It is an explanation but it's based on very tenuous facts. Lanfear was 'known' to hide her strength based on one quote early on by Moiraine, and even Moiraine suggested that it was nothing more than rumour..

Says the guy who falls back on "Bonfire and Candles" ... now that one of her quotes refutes what you think it's "one quote early on by Moiraine"

To be honest I don't put a lot of stock in the theory either... just brought it up as a side note. In fact I don't put a lot of stock in Moiraine quotes from anything prior to TSR ... she was wrong far too often

Can you imagine how long Lanfear would have had to go through life with this weave on herself, hiding her ability? It strains credibility just from a practical perspective. It seems like Mesaana is quite sure of Lanfear's measured strength. I doubt many women have seen Lanfear channel her full potential and based their estimation on that. Even some of the Black Ajah say that they've measured Lanfear's strength, and it was very high.

well actually all they really have to do is tie off an inverted weave and never think about it again. And Mesaana is ever so credible

She thinks she can match Semirhage, and will be delivering an army of AS to the DO too...

Cyndane also directly says that Alivia is stronger than her before the Finns held her, which implies that she has truly lost strength since then.

That doesn't tell us a whole lot, only that Cyndane lost some power (which we know), could have been through the loss of an angreal, which she immediately assumes Alivia is holding.
