I'm beginning with some negatives I've noticed in the books (don't ask me why. I think its a great book, which is probably why these stand out so...)
First off... Why didn't Dumbledore react when Hagrid told him Sirius lent him his bike? Why not try to stop him when Hagrid said he was going to return the bike now?
From book 3, it is clear Dumbledore "knew" Sirius was the Secret Keeper from the beginning. His lack of suspicion in the first chapter is a little baffling.
But more irritating is that the Potters felt they needed an outsider as a Secret Keeper. Why choose between Lupin, Wormtail and Sirius at all? We have seen Mr. Weasley and Bill act as Secret Keepers for their own homes. One would think James or especially Lily (who was great at Charms, apparently) would have taken up the job. That would have been so much safer. The existence of this hole has always bothered me.
The Dumbledore-McGonagall relationship: This is less a critique of this book and more one of the series. Early on, McGonagall is shown to be at least as close a confidante of Dumbledore as Snape, maybe closer. She trsuts (and is in turn trusted by) Dumbledore, but she isn't shown to be incapable of questioning him or disagreeing with him. Yet, when his end was near, and he knew Harry would have to go through crazy adventures and Hogwarts would be compromised, he was content to let her carry on teaching?
