but a friend of mine bullied me enough that I finally bought Sorceror's stone in 2002 before the Chamber of Secrets movie came out.
I fell in love with Alan Rickman after I saw Chamber of Secrets
I'd seen Sense and Sensibility before then but I was probably 14 at the time

I don't know if this is the right place, but I'll ask anyway.
I'm a huge, huge Alan Rickman fan. I really adore him. I love his Snape in the Harry Potter movies, he's brilliant.
My question is, after reading the books, do you think his Snape is the same Snape from the books? I personally don't, I think he is far too powerful to be the same character. Which doesn't mean I don't love him as Snape, because I really do.
I'm answering this too, because I was thinking about it a couple days ago.
Rickman's Snape is impossible to hate (for me). He's awesome. Snape in the books is easier to dislike until you really get into the last few. He's still petty and nasty in the first few, and it doesn't ease up much until we start learning why he is that way.
Huge example: in the confrontation with the werewolf, he's an ass through that whole section of the book. Barely redeemable. In the movie, he's a jerk to the adults and not so nice to the kids, but as soon as Rickman realizes Lupin could attack, he shields the kids with his bodies. They give him more opportunities to look human.
