The books mature as Harry does. You should really give it another shot *NM* Dark Knight Send a noteboard - 29/07/2010 03:00:37 PM
When I tell people I read half the first book but found it to basically a run of the mill if somewhat long children’s book they tell me I have to keep reading it because it gets better. Half a book seemed sufficient to me form an opinion, I shouldn’t be forced to read a thousand pages of practice writing before I get to something worth reading. And for the all the talk about how many adult fans the series has must of the people I know who love the books starting reading them before they turned 20. The story may grow with the kids but I was already a grown up when it started.

It is more time then I gave the Sookie Stackhouse books. I only made it about four pages in before I decided it was drivel. Just watching part of one of one of the Twilight movies and hearing premise described was enough to turn me off from the books.

I try not make judgments about the people who read such works and instead simply judge the work alone but I can’t help but suspect it is at least partly buying into hype and if they had just found these books on a dusty rack in a used book and picked them because the cover was interesting they would not have had the same impact. Humans are drawn to what is popular.
