just because a book no longer fits the contemporary preferences does not mean it's suddenly "bad" and that no one should enjoy it. I mean, to take another Homer example, look at Odysseus. He's really is a one-dimensional character who doesn't develop an ounce throughout the entire story. As far as depth of the actual story, there's some, but certainly no more than a better (not even best, better) fantasy novel.

So are we now to toss Homer out the window as an author? Because his stories no longer fit the contemporary preferences of a small percentage of the population?

Stories need to be analyzed in context, not only contemporary parameters, and people really need to learn that their analysis is only an opinion.
