The commentary by Jordan and McGonagall yelling at him is really nice comedic relief. I can just hear them in my head every time I read it.

Although Luna's in book six is classic as well, in a rather different way.
Then Ron waking up to Black standing over him with a knife and you automatically think that he's there to kill Harry and just had the wrong bed. That is a really good example of misdirection that become perfectly clear later on. I love that.

Yeah, the whole thing is really played very well. The only weak spot really is that it's so unlikely Pettigrew would have ended up precisely with the Weasley family... but okay, there's worse coincidences in books.
And I love the map insulting Snape when he tries to figure out what it is. And Lupin hinting at knowing Harry's Father (and the mapmakers) when he says that the creators of the map would find luring him out very funny.

That comment says rather a lot of things, I thought. Not only does it make clear that James and Sirius could be assholes, which we'll see confirmed later on, but it also simply shows that they, unlike Harry and his closest friends, are at school to learn and to try and have fun, without having mysteries or dark threats hanging over their heads all the time. Despite the fact that Voldemort must've been stronger at the time than at any point in the HP series except for book seven. Harry may be a lot like James, but his Hogwarts career happens in so very different circumstances.
And of course Harry beating out Malfoy and winning the cup for Gryffindor was classic.
