This is interesting. I have always assumed that there must be several schools of witchcraft and wizardry in Great Britain. People frquently say things like "Hogwarts is the best school" (I can only think of Hagrid in the first book, but I have a feeling I have read it elsewhere) and comments about accepting children of Muggles. If there is only one school, and all magical children in Britain and Ireland go there, then it doesn't make sense to talk about it being the best school.

The whole Tri-Wizard tournament almost made it seem like there were only a few schools that mattered in all of Europe, nevermind in the UK alone. And at one point when Draco mentions how his father had his doubts about sending him to Hogwarts, the alternative mentioned is Durmstrang, not some British school that might perhaps refuse Muggles as well.

Logistics and the numbers have never been Rowling's strength, in any case, and she can't think of everything. Still, I'm curious if in her mind there are other wizarding schools in Britain...
