Yesyesyesyesyes. He is. Lovely.
Yes. One of my favorites in the whole series.
I know. I have been wondering about that, too. But I loved him before I saw the films, so unless I had been put off by later books... I think I was so surprised by him not being the bad guy in the first book I refused to ever believe he was bad again. I therefore constructed a very vague reasoning which made sense of his apparent badness and made it acceptable. It was ultimately wrong, but it worked very well for me. Of course, I am not saying Rickman hurt Snape's case at all.
Well, never thought he was the Bad Guy. I thought he was the absolutely awful, borderline too horrible for me to want to think of as tragic, character. Which told me that Rowling was setting him up for something Gray Area. I was a fan throughout the series, but not in a typical "fan" kinda way. I fought against the idea that he was "evil." And then began to like (interpret this term loosely) him when we got more than shallow views of his past (I think. I don't know when I met Rickman's Snape on the HP timeline).
What do you mean? What actions?
His ability to look at the situation and decide that the mainstream solution is not good for him at all. And then to quietly decide on a morally appropriate plan. That's why he's just a strong character, imo. He exists outside and above that whole "proper for wizards" thing we referred to regarding Lupin. Things get more complicated in later books, but you see what I mean.
Ah, yes. I agree.
