Re: Snape, Percy, Hermione, Ron, Mrs Weasley and Sirius. Legolas Send a noteboard - 26/08/2010 10:44:34 AM
Snape: I felt a little sorry for him during the midnight encounter with Moody. I like his confidence that Dumbledore trusts him. I am not such a fan of how he whispers menacingly to Harry while the latter is chopping his vegetables and crushing things -- as an adult man he should be above taunting and threatening a kid. But still. I like Snape. Oddly.

Dark Knight has a point, but yes, I get what you mean.
Percy: he had been worried about Ron during the task (at least that is how I understand his pallor). I like to see that. I had forgotten it, and Percy being affectionate is a rare sight. He also keeps fussing over Ron once he is out of the water.

Agreed. I had forgotten it too, it was interesting because it shows he certainly hasn't turned his back on his family yet here.
Hermione: ignores Krum after the task, angry when Fleur kisses Ron. Oh yes.

Whereas Krum is jealous that Hermione cares more about Ron and Harry than about him. Really kind of awkward, the way three of the four hostages were people Harry cared a lot about. :P And convenient indeed. Though of course in the end the one he saves besides Ron is the only one he doesn't know - otherwise it wouldn't be heroic enough, I guess?
Ron: his tendency to embellish stories shows up again. Issues, issues...

Yeah, it was pretty bad... surely people can't actually believe that nonsense he tells, when the true version has to go from mouth to mouth fairly fast. Weird.
And his very insistent insistence that he would like to know what Hermione replied to Krum's kind offer to have her visit him. Cute, in a way.

Indeed.
Mrs Weasley: I had forgotten that the place where she gets the story of Harry and Hermione's breakup is in fact Witch Weekly. I had thought it was the Prophet. This makes more sense.

Me too, I didn't realize Skeeter wrote for other media too. Makes sense though, I suppose.
Sirius: It is interesting that he says (and in connection with house-elves no less) ``If you want to know what a man's like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals''. Of course Sirius' treatment of Kreecher says a lot about him -- but mainly it is about his serious issues with his family. I don't think he is one to mistreat house-elves in general.

Agreed, but it's funny that Sirius should say that, all the same. He must have changed a lot either in the years after Hogwarts, or during his time in Azkaban. Because the Sirius we see in the Pensieve and all isn't exactly treating his inferiors (i.e. Peter) all that well.

It's clearly a point Rowling believes in strongly, though. Abuse of power and treating inferiors harshly are characteristics that you find in nearly all of her villains (including, of course, Snape).
