Maybe I was unclear. Ghavrel Send a noteboard - 30/09/2010 10:55:22 PM
I meant to say that I think Longfellow and Milton both wrote beautifully while constraining themselves to hexameter.

"This is the forest primeval. The murmuring pines and the hemlocks,
Bearded with moss, and in garments green, indistinct in the twilight,
Stand like Druids of eld, with voices sad and prophetic,
Stand like harpers hoar, with beards that rest on their bosoms.
Loud from its rocky caverns, the deep-voiced neighboring ocean
Speaks, and in accents disconsolate answers the wail of the forest."

I adore that meter, though, so maybe I am overlooking things.
"We feel safe when we read what we recognise, what does not challenge our way of thinking.... a steady acceptance of pre-arranged patterns leads to the inability to question what we are told."
~Camilla
