Excellent. Might as well include a Hooft poem anyway, in case anyone's interested... Legolas Send a noteboard - 30/09/2010 11:40:24 PM
I will not be reading Dutch poetry in Dutch, thank you very much. Prose I might handle. Not potery.

Aw. I was going to show you my favourite Hooft sonnet, but... yeah. It might be a bit hard, and the antiquated and inconsistent spelling won't help. :P

I'll post it anyway for anyone who wants to see what they can make of it:

Doodtvyandt van de rust, die woelt bij nacht bij daech;
Onachterhaelbre Tijdt, wiens heten honger graech
Verslockt, verslint, verteert al watter sterck mach lijcken
En keert, en wendt, en stort Staeten en Coninckrijcken;

If you want to start easy on Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities or The Mystery of Edwin Drood might be good. Little Dorrit and Bleak House (paradoxically) are both quite happy in the end. For some. Not all.

I've heard good things from others as well about Tale of Two Cities. I might try that.
