I'll give you that, though part of the reason I read it as I did was based on the last sentence, which seemed to me to be so over the top in hyperbole that I assumed the worst. "Certainly, The Divine Comedy inspired the Holocaust" is a pretty extreme statement, and a very unfounded one.
I should also mention that I am of an extremely high opinion of The Divine Comedy and the unfounded attack on it really irked me.
