Pretty much (plus I have to finish reading the second half) Larry Send a noteboard - 10/10/2009 05:34:38 AM
Everyone's got to eat - I don't blame her for it - but as a fan of the series (and I really didn't like the "fifth" book of the trilogy) I just am not really enthused. At least Nabokov's children published a book he had written. The same goes for Christopher Tolkien's editing of the Children of Hurin book.

This and the Winnie-the-Pooh book just sound...wrong.

Maybe I should get the rights to write a sequel to The Odyssey.

Well, I'll just say that I didn't agree to sign the NDA offered to me until I had read the first half of the galley proof sent to reviewers. I thought that first half was fairly good, provided of course that one didn't expect an exact copying of Adams' style.

The author, Colfer, is an interesting choice. He first turned it down, but when offered a second time by the widow directly, he accepted, apparently because he was a fan of the series. He certainly didn't need the money, since his own Artemis Fowl series regularly appears on the NYT lists and supposedly has sold more books than Adams did.

That being said, I'm generally not a fan of the Scarlett approach. However, I'm willing to give the book the benefit of the doubt in a few ways...but I have to finish the book this weekend before I can say anymore, to be honest. The first half was promising...at least that it wouldn't be a Kevin Anderson/Brian Herbert-style raping of Adams' series.
