Okay, colour me shocked. Legolas Send a noteboard - 10/01/2010 07:16:23 PM
I've got a couple of Maupassant books, and the memoirs of Consuelo de Saint-Exupéry (Antoine's wife), so probably those.

Cool. I liked the few Maupassant stories I read, and those memoires should be pretty interesting alright.
I like adventure stories about cowboys and indians :D.

Are you familiar with Karl May? I'm not sure how great his renown in the English-language world is...
I haven't read it since I was 11, is why.

Ah, right.
That's not a bad idea. I'm now tempted to start doing reading themes for each year myself, starting in 2011, but to be honest I'd almost certainly get bored of whatever I chose.

I have the same problem - I sometimes can't even make myself read the books I checked out of the library thinking they looked good. If I'd read every book I ever checked out of the library... I'd be a whole lot more well-read. :P
I read the first 100 pages or something a few years ago. Then two years ago Mary gave me the 40th anniversary addition for my birthday. I haven't touched it. Now she lives with us, and every time I see it on the shelf I feel a little bit guilty :P.

Good reason to read it, I suppose.
I have to read the book before I can see the film.

Definitely. Haven't seen the movie, myself.
It's one of those books that just has to be read. Especially when you live in Edinburgh. Like you say, it's short; and I didn't pay money for it, as they were being given out for free during National Book Week (or something) last year.

Wait, what does Edinburgh have to do with it? Is this just because of the general ghost thing? It's set in London, no?
Pretty much, although I did also decide that, having read them at age 11 and never again, it really was time for a reread...

This is as you probably guessed the shocking part - you've read Tolkien only once?! That must be pretty rare on this site. ;)
