Nope.

He's pretty much THE author of cowboy and Indian stories as far as good parts of Europe are concerned. Terrible in terms of beating you around the head with the "noble savage" deal, and kind of moralizing at times, but he's pretty fun to read. Of course, he never set foot in America (or in the other far-off places he wrote stories about) until after he actually wrote his books, but his research is good enough that he gets the details mostly right.
I hate that too. Isn't it annoying when you keep renewing it for weeks on end, until eventually after having had it for two or three months you have to give it back, and you still haven't found the time to read it?

I have that way too often. Internet time really cuts into your reading time, I guess.
Robert Louis Stevenson was from Edinburgh, and the story was based on the life of Deacon William Brodie: upstanding citizen by day, criminal by night. He too was from Edinburgh.

Oh, I didn't know that. Makes sense, then.
I'm really not much of a rereader. I have this memory of it being a huge long thing that I was too intimidated to read again (despite enjoying it the first time), but that's probably because I was very young when I read it. I just had another look, and it doesn't seem that bad after all.

Sounds like me with War and Peace. I've reread LotR a number of times, and it certainly isn't that bad. ;)
Also, I spent my teenage years reading Robert Jordan instead :P.
