Yes, RAFO's design is minimalist, but you might consider that there are people who are tired of image signatures 500 pixels deep and avatars so large they crowd out actual content.

As for making advertising look good, bullshit. You can ameliorate the damage, but it makes a site look pathetic. Show me a site with good looking advertising; I can't recall seeing one in the past ten years.
