THANK YOU ßelals Girl Send a noteboard - 18/08/2010 01:13:16 AM
If they are truly interested in reconciliation, they will realize how utterly insensitive this is and move the building further away. If they are not, and just want to build a mosque there and tell objectors to bite them, then fine, there is nothing stopping them, but then they deserve all the flak they get from people who think they are being insensitive assholes (and that includes me).

I don't care if these Muslims were supporters of the attacks or not, this is just as insensitive as (as someone else said) a Walmart at Wounded Knee, or a German cultural center next to a concentration camp, or a cotton plantation next to Martin Luther King Jr's grave, etc. After all, the builders of those things wouldn't have been participants in those atrocities either, but that wouldn't stop it from being seen as utterly insensitive.

We always have to bend over backwards to avoid the slightest offense to previously victimized groups, but suddenly, when WE'RE the victims we all have to roll over and turn a blind eye to any and all offense and insensitivity toward us, or a bunch of arrogant European pricks might come and sneer at us.

SHAME on the builders of this thing, and I hope the piece of shit is vandalized every freaking night. In fact, I wish every New Yorker would make the sidewalk outside the entrance their dog's official public toilet, and I don't give a shit if the builders and their patrons are offended. They've certainly shown that they don't give a shit if they offend people, so why are they worthy of any courtesy?

If they want respect, show some respect.

Flame me if you'd like, but that's how I feel and I'm sticking to it.

Been hearing a lot on NPR - 17/08/2010 03:32:42 PM 1427 Views
I could see it being insensitive if it were actually where the towers used to be. - 17/08/2010 03:43:18 PM 1511 Views
Yeah. - 17/08/2010 03:51:13 PM 1459 Views

I'm not saying it's a partisan issue, but it has turned political for all the wrong reasons. - 18/08/2010 04:18:49 AM 1503 Views
is the idea that it is not to close to ground zero the misinformation you are refering to? - 18/08/2010 03:09:17 PM 1350 Views
Well, it's not like they're literally on ground zero. - 18/08/2010 08:54:08 PM 1512 Views
ground zero is defined as where the old WTC complex was - 19/08/2010 12:23:32 PM 1330 Views

the only reason Obama won't be out of job is he isn't running - 18/08/2010 03:10:58 PM 1314 Views
Oh, I dunno if you could translate the current numbers into Obamas defeat. - 18/08/2010 03:52:18 PM 1387 Views
Bush's numbers were much better in 04 then Obama's are now - 18/08/2010 04:11:31 PM 1466 Views
Perhaps so then. - 19/08/2010 04:51:36 PM 1360 Views

so 2 blocks from the superblock then? - 17/08/2010 04:13:03 PM 1530 Views
I guess, superblock is an obscure term to this country lad - 17/08/2010 04:41:11 PM 1333 Views
It may not necessarily matter to people who are aware of that fact. - 17/08/2010 05:13:12 PM 1323 Views
mk, well, to my mind (being from phoeni, 1 full city block is about 1 mile. - 17/08/2010 05:15:49 PM 1383 Views
A mile is a serious exaggeration, surely. - 17/08/2010 05:24:48 PM 1503 Views
