I was under the impression that your point was "There are already smut shops in the area, so who cares about a mosque?"

If the area is supposed to be "hallowed" because of what happened, it evidently doesn't show. And if it is not "hallowed" but just an ordinary part of Manhattan where one can put whatever one likes, including seedy shops, it would be bizarre to object to a perfectly respectable community-center-with-mosque.
