Oh, I dunno if you could translate the current numbers into Obamas defeat. Joel Send a noteboard - 18/08/2010 03:52:18 PM
the Democratic Senate Majority Leader has publicly disagreed. Which would tend to indicate that Democratic members of Congress facing re-election this fall are concerned.

For precisely the reason to which nossy alluded to in her response to you. Obama said, IMHO, exactly what he should've; I think the mosques location is a HORRIBLE mistake, but it wouldn't be American to deny them the right to build it on private property (if 911 is the deep and painful scar on Americas psyche that so many seem to think, should any part of the area(s) attacked that day BE private property rather than a national memorial? Is Disney still doing that "Gettysburg Battlefield Carnage and Kiddie Ride" thing...?) As President, of course, anything he says will about anything will be under multiple microscopes in nanoseconds, and this isn't great timing for him, but he said what he should've.

For one thing, it hasn't been that long since someone got re-elected a week after one poll showed him running behind "Somebod E. else" and a month after another showed him trailing "Anothercan D. Date. " For another, everything I said about Obamas disapproval numbers not being entirely from the right goes double for a Presidential election. As illustrated by the first point; a LOT of people (most, easily) disliked Bush in '04, but many of those people went out and voted for him anyway because the thought of KERRY as President was too horrifying.

Reid, however, is so inept I can't imagine how he got where he is today. His grasp of campaigning shouldn't be good enough to win a dog catchers election, and even if I give him a pass on that, how does a person so HORRIBLE at backroom armtwisting become Majority Leader for ANY party? Reids defeat may be the best thing for Dems; they'll almost certainly retain a Senate majority, and the way will be clear for a more capable majority leader, probably NOT from the spineless unctuous ranks that produced Reid. Talking down to the people and kissing up to the "loyal" opposition got him nothing but a terminated political career; hopefully someone was watching....
