I know there are a few types of business where not giving your name is acceptable when you call them but in my line of work, not so much.

I had one client who was so paranoid that when he called to make an appointment, he argued with me about why I needed his name, and even the briefest description of his issue. When I get tired of asking I generally go to "Well I'm sorry, but thats the information I need to give you an appointment. My boss will not allow an exception, I'm sorry we can't help you." Which will change most people's tunes.

And then when he came for his appointment, he didnt want to give me his documents to make copies of until I swore I would not read them. And once he was speaking to the attorney, he had a freak out and declared he didn't "feel comfortable" being closed in the office with him and demanded the door be open.

We've got confidentiality issues to deal with so that was a really annoying request.

People are nutters. Utter nutters.
