Some denominations still do. Joel Send a noteboard - 01/10/2010 03:28:48 PM
or I'm sure I remember reading that. Hopefully I didn't just imagine it:P

Seventh Day Adventists being the ones with which I'm most familiar, but then, they were one of the products of the second Great Awakening. ;) And, according to Wikipedia, the 12th largest religion on Earth and 6th largest "internationally active" one (whatever that means. ) Technically, though most Christians don't know it, the Sabbath didn't move just because of the Resurrection. Paul and other NT writers are generally felt to refer to Sunday as "the Lords Day, " because that's when Christ rose, but the Sabbath is the Sabbath forever. Heck, look at a calendar; what's the seventh day of the week? Not that it matters much in terms of Christian doctrine; we're supposed to honor every day as the Sabbath in Christ. Though a lot of us don't do that either. :[

I think in history classes outside the US the topic is omitted altogether. *NM* - 01/10/2010 11:36:41 AM 407 Views
I'm fairly sure it isn't seen as a must know in the British educational system *NM* - 01/10/2010 11:42:07 AM 416 Views
Quite. And certainly not in New Zealand. *NM* - 01/10/2010 11:55:27 AM 423 Views
I'm sure you're right, but it shouldn't be, because the formative influence was/is huge. - 01/10/2010 01:15:09 PM 1116 Views
Well, in university level American history courses, I'm sure it's mentioned. - 01/10/2010 01:20:56 PM 1012 Views
I think when a country becomes a world power you need to cover more of its past. - 01/10/2010 02:00:54 PM 1021 Views
Depends on how much that past mingles with yours. - 01/10/2010 02:08:35 PM 1070 Views
Seems more like it depends on how the present mingles. - 01/10/2010 02:21:56 PM 960 Views
Well. Not so much. - 01/10/2010 02:28:55 PM 919 Views
I can see NZ taking that view, sure. - 01/10/2010 03:11:21 PM 1058 Views
But more important, I would stay, is understanding your own country - 01/10/2010 02:34:22 PM 1130 Views
That last certainly seems to be NZ's point of view. *NM* - 01/10/2010 02:34:59 PM 463 Views
