Oh, no doubt Buddhism is more well known globally. The question probably wouldn't have been on there if they weren't polling an Americans, but an American who's never heard of the Mormons has lived his life under a rock. So it's a religion, and any American who doesn't know about it probably doesn't know about any others.

Right, but it's still first and foremost a religious question. If a German were ignorant of the Mormons I'd call his religious knowledge deficient; if an American were I'd call it nonexistent.
