What I can tell you is that if my disabled mother had had to get out of her car and be searched just to drive down to the airport and meet me on the curb outside the terminal every time I came home, she'd have raised unholy hell with everyone in sight. Had I been forced to do the same and then submit to ADDITIONAL security checks just to see my fiancee off last Christmas I'd have been a bit upset, too.
That first check is a very brief one, no search involved but just asking those two questions and looking at how you behave while answering them, since their focus is on behaviour rather than forbidden items. For most people this'll be a 5-10 second stop before you're on your way.
