I just want a scanner that works, and is safe. If the backscatter machines qualify, then I wish people would shut up and use them. If they don't, I wish we'd develop something else, because pat-downs seem inherently error prone. With that said, I totally agree with the new more "invasive" pat-down measures. If you have to do a pat-down, (this is the part I don't agree with, but assuming that it's true) it makes no sense to avoid certain areas. If you don't pat the chest or genital areas, that's exactly where weapons will start to be hidden. I don't like pat-downs in general, but what good they're able to accomplish is completely negated by allowing people their modesty.
So. Yes, I support the new pat-down measures until we can confirm the safety of the backscatter machines, or develop a better technology.

So, people travelling in the US tomorrow: are you opting out?
