Trudi, Gretchen, Klaus, Sepp - those are just ones that instantly come to mind (though admittedly the only "Sepp" I've ever heard of is Panzer commander Sepp Dietrich). I know there are a lot more.

Of course, Americans do it less these days as well, so maybe there isn't so much of a difference after all. It's just an impression that I have that it's still more frequent in the US somehow, people who call their newborn "Thomas" even though they fully intend to call him "Tom".
