Oh that's not that bad! Vivien Send a noteboard - 26/03/2011 03:48:05 PM
At least they're pronounced differently! How about the million different version on Krista, Christa, Christen, Kristen, Christine, Christina etc. Kristy! That one is insane.

The only one of those three that is a real name is ????? - the rest are just made-up versions of that one.

I also hate it when people think that "Sasha", "Natasha" or "Tanya" are proper full names. It would be as stupid as giving someone "Bill", "Jack" or "Susie" as a full name over here (not that ignorant people don't do that, either).

About the dimunitive thing, I think it's even harder for me with Anna/Anya since these seem like distinct names and have the same number of letters.

I actually prefer the pronounciation of Anna with an "ah" sound rather than "a". Somehow I always introduce myself with Anna and the "a" sound because I assume it's the accepted way to say my name in english. I've had people ask me what I actually want to be called and I'm just, I don't care it's all the same name. I do like how spanish speakers say my name, they use the "ah" sound no matter how I introduce myself.
