Why should a family member you don't know well, beyond knowing you neither like or respect, be more important than a close friend you have known for twenty years?


Pretty much any family that is alive and in the US is super important. Family to me means people who love you unconditionally. Friends come and go but family is forever. It probably makes it easier for me that I don't have a large extended family, especially in the US. I'm assuming we're talking about family members that you see regularly when it's someone's birthday or wedding anniversary or anything like that. If it's a family member you don't see more often than once a year, then yeah they don't have to be invited to the wedding.
