As well as the gold-coloured wrap I wore too.

It was technically a bridesmaid's dress. Long and greeny-gold. I love it.

I like the idea of not wearing a wedding dress. Wedding dresses are either ridiculously expensive or ugly. In any case, you're never going to wear it again.

Indeed. I'm probably going to wear my gold dress to Tim's graduation ball in July.

Well white is beautiful though. I think part of what makes it beautiful is the pristine whiteness- it's stunning for maybe a day, and then it looks dirty. That's what wedding dresses are white- since it's a dress you're never going to wear again, it may as well be white.

They're white because Queen Victoria chose a white dress for her wedding, and it was the kind of gown that was accessible for commoners to copy for the first time. (Usually, royal dresses had been made from things like gold lamé and were encrusted with gems, so commoners couldn't copy them.) Before that, people just wore their best dresses.
