The graduation rate for athletes overall is higher than the general undergrad student body, it seems

and yah I suppose that is their choice to make. It just pains me to watch athletes struggle when they don't "make it big", but didn't take the time to actually LEARN anything during their courses. They just thought about making it big. It is stupid and it is their choice. That doesn't mean I have to like it or the situation. The professional organizations have put the kids in a bad place where its either "go to college or never come here", but college should be for learning, not impressing the big leagues. It is the kid's choice to not study, but I still feel bad for the ones that just got the short end of the stick, you know?
I'm sure you think it's fuzzy minded liberal thinking like that that gets me eaten, right?

So I don't believe it's quite as bad as what you portray. Quite a few former players end up doing nicely outside of school, as several schools (including my alma mater, the University of Tennessee) have established post-playing assistance programs to help former players obtain their degrees.
