Tone and context though Isaac Send a noteboard - 18/08/2011 01:57:37 AM
Saying someone doesn't have the US best interests at heart
is very different in degrees to
A) Actually trying to sabotagethe US,
B) Overthrow the US
C) Make war against the US
D) Seriously injure the US
These 4 options are the different means of the word treason. There is a big difference in degree.

------

But I kinda agree with you Isaac the big deal is not calling Ben Bernanke (US Fed Chair) a traitor, but instead in my mind the call to violence/suggesting that Ben Bernanke was in Texas he would be lynched.

Most of the media is focusing on the traitor part but not on the second part on the call of violence.

Well the guy did say 'almost treasonous' not 'treasonous' and was talking in a pretty casual fashion, I don't feel anything in his tone could be considered incitement and he's basically implying down in Texas they'd be writing nasty letters an such, not tying literal nooses. I'm not calling it appropriate or defending the remark, I just can't see it really being negative. My own language - spoken not written - tends to involve things like using fuck as a comma so I try to keep a relaxed standard. I'm not really swooning for Perry right now myself but I can't see his comment there really effecting my vote. I may be being a bit generous though since some tried to play the race card on him for using the words 'black cloud' a couple days ago.

the difference in degree is the degree of hyperbole you used - 18/08/2011 02:14:03 PM 311 Views
"Hyperbole". That is exactly the word I was just thinking to describe the situation. - 19/08/2011 01:10:26 AM 345 Views
Perry is a blowhard - 19/08/2011 02:40:39 AM 293 Views
I'd like to see some examples of both sides accusing each other of treason. - 18/08/2011 03:08:08 AM 557 Views
I am so not getting into this with you - 18/08/2011 03:12:31 AM 389 Views
I'm kinda sick of the whole subject. - 18/08/2011 02:31:23 AM 427 Views
He left it vague, so he gets away with promoting violence; that's "free speech" now. - 18/08/2011 02:52:30 AM 429 Views
I shall infer something from those statements - 18/08/2011 02:00:00 PM 444 Views

I took his comment to be something meant to appeal to the Tea Party segment, but came out wrong. - 18/08/2011 06:53:34 PM 443 Views

You're right; liberals like Karl Rove and Ron Paul are already criticizing his comment. - 18/08/2011 09:56:26 PM 439 Views

Why do liberals always object when people urge political violence against us? - 18/08/2011 05:52:05 PM 335 Views
So I guess the answer is liberals are just naturally paranoid - 18/08/2011 06:45:30 PM 423 Views
