That actually managed to alarm me a lot more than it reassured me.

And perhaps the biggest surprise for me there is that it wasn't the observation that Huntsman's descended from the same Mormon patriarch as Romney. I'm more worried by all the other things that remind me of Romney. The EPA is a wonderful thing--but we don't want it to actually DO anything. He stresses the angry abandonment he saw our China policy provoke in Taiwan during his missionary days--but urges continued cooperation with China and withdrawal from the region, the obvious exception to THAT being, of course, continuation of the "free" trade policies so beneficial to Chinas junta and Americas multinationals at the expense of virtually everyone else (children enslaved in Chinese coal mines could be forgiven for thinking the term "free trade" a bit ironic
.) Most of all, like Romney, Huntsman is convinced no American problem is so great it can't be solved by more tax breaks to multinationals and the millionaires running them. After all, they haven't defrauded their domestic and foreign clients of any additional billions since we slapped two executives with a whopping $160,000 in fines for that and dropped a trillion dollar bailout in the laps of firms whose "investments" were exposed as junk bonds. If Huntsman's genuinely worried about Americas debt I can put his mind at ease: One out of every four dollars on the planet is held by an American citizen; America's not in debt, it's GOVERNMENT is, mostly to its own citizens, including the Wall Street firms who knowingly marketed worthless mortgages as "investments" they never expected to pay out but expect their Treasury Securities to be paid in full despite denying the federal government any tax money with which to make those payments. Telling me he'll fix that problem by exacerbating it is not a compelling reason to vote for Huntsman.
