What kind do you have? Tell me the model and I'll tell you how you can use it. The one I got has a foil so it's very safe to use. However, it's not effective on longer hair, it's meant for stubble and regular use. I'm going to use it primarily on my underarms. I've used it several times already and I'm very happy- it's very easy for me to shave my underarms with this, it's painless and there's no irritation, let alone blood.

Now, if you're talking pubic hair, in my experience the best way to deal with it is with a gizmo such as a finishing touch. There are several others that are similar, the key characteristic is a row of extremely close together dull protective teeth and then a row of cutting teeth that are further apart so that it's super safe. This is the only thing I feel comfortable using for pubic hair, I've cut myself or had irritation with anything else. This thing is easy to use and foolproof. [Scissors are so not foolproof! That's practically the worst thing to use!] The finishing touch is small and there's even a pivot so you can get at any nooks and crannies.

Now the bad part is the blades get dull very quickly, so this thing is close to disposable. I've tried calling the number listed in one of the amazon reviews for replacement blades several times but I've never been able to get through. But even with that I think it's worth it.
