Bonobos will have sex with most individuals in their group to keep the group cohesive. But a number of marriage therapists and individuals in related fields will note that relationships often deteriorate due to the lack or incompatibility of sexual activity. It's not just because people feel put off by the other person's unwillingness...there's been some evidence that continuing to have sex (or physical intimacy of some sort) increases certain hormone levels in both individuals that help encourage the relationship's stability.
