It is not proof, only far from conclusive evidence. Joel Send a noteboard - 26/08/2012 11:02:38 PM
How could someone not doping completely dominate an era rife with it, even after a bout with testicular cancer (a known side effect of steroid abuse)? What kind of superhuman am I expected to believe he is? I know that is not proof, but it does stretch the bounds of plausibility. With all the patriotic fist-pumping Armstrong generates though (in both directions) I doubt anyone ever gets to the bottom of it, or that there will be any uniform public reaction if they do.

I'm not sure his contracting cancer does offer that much proof.
But yes, the fact that he was able to beat the best cyclists in the world 7 years in a row in the Tour while the majority of them were doping is clearly suspicious. More so when you combine it with so many of his former team mates having been caught/ admitted doping.

Your other points are also valid, and more compelling, and the positive samples he submitted during evaluation of one of the tests are suspicous also. Still not conclusive due to the inability to verify chain of evidence, but that objection is so common from those accused of doping it has lost much credibility. For example:

I have been a big fan of Broncos linebacker D.J. Williams throughout his eight year career, but his current six game suspension is hard to criticize, even amid the same chain of custody objections; "substantiating" them by dropping the sample and kicking it into a team-only area undermine his credibility.

There is a preponderence of evidence against Armstrong, but not proof beyond reasonable doubt; which standard applies is up to the sports governing bodies.
