What's a BAR? In any event, link a diagram and I'll let you know Isaac Send a noteboard - 22/12/2012 01:26:31 AM
If you're talking about a Browning M1918, the only BAR that comes to mind, there is a reason I said 'virtually all' and pre-WWII attempts at semi or auto were pretty craptacular at best.

As I try to explain to people from time to time, a semi-automatic is an improvement on a fully automatic weapon. Semi = better than = Full Auto

Not that I had looked until about an hour ago, but what I have found so far says it is impossible. Not saying you are wrong; you know the specs far better than I,

If you've seen the specs on whatever the hell it is you know them better than I, I've memorized most US/NATO stuff and the real popular ones, but there are thousands and thousands of variations. Some would be impossible, or at least practically impossible, to modify. For most, it's literally something you could do with a file in ten minutes. But the principles are more or less the same between guns, it still varies between guns.

but there seems to be a world of difference between military-to-civilian conversions and exclusively, originally, civilian designs. Be careful, now; I am sure the last thing you want to do is lend credence to the anti-gun lobbys claims ALL semi-automatics can be made fully automatic after a couple minutes filing down the firing pin. ;)

Big civilian differences tend to be barrel twist and powder, and of course ammo type. Also the lobbyist don't interest me, anymore than their old ass-hattery about the importance of hunting. They can suck my $%#@, truth is truth. No, not all can be converted that easy of course, and some not all, but its all about the specific design.
