Leveling that playing field is much of the point of guns. Joel Send a noteboard - 05/01/2013 05:43:47 PM
To say nothing of the power dynamics that a teacher having a lethal weapon would entail.

EDIT: You know what? I don't actually know what the effects would be on kids' psyches. Next time I see my shrink, who used to specialize in child psychology, I'll ask him.

"All men are created equal; Colonel Colt made them that way." There are myriad ways a linebacker can greatly harm someone half his size, but the latters possession of a gun greatly mitigates the formers ability to inflict that harm. It does not ELIMINATE that ability, any more than Nancy Lanzas guns prevented someone already in her home from killing her in her sleep. You have played enough AD&D to know letting someone get close enough for a melee attack greatly diminishes a ranged weapons utility. On the other hand, you have studied enough history to know how well Crecy and Agincourt demonstrated that good ranged weapons can prevent anyone getting close enough for a melee attack. Many women like guns precisely because they offer protection from many men who could otherwise overpower them.

New rule: When people stop feigning ignorance of things they know very well, I will stop reminding them of those same things. :) Actually, that is not a new rule, just a formal declaration of an existing one. ;)

his premise is "there's already too many guns so why bother trying anything at all now" - 07/01/2013 06:27:20 PM 843 Views
I don't think that's his sole premise but it's also quite true - 07/01/2013 07:05:20 PM 875 Views
i think you're missing a piece of the puzzle - 07/01/2013 07:23:02 PM 816 Views
I'm not missing it, I just don't think it's wise or especially moral - 07/01/2013 09:36:05 PM 862 Views
moral has nothing to do with it, imho - 07/01/2013 11:26:00 PM 922 Views

It would strictly be voluntary - 30/12/2012 03:02:18 AM 859 Views
You seriously don't think a linebacker can take a gun off a 5' teacher?He can just punch her. - 30/12/2012 09:45:05 AM 851 Views
